Wow, this makes me want to go into nature and hike again! So, so beautiful.

"Looking south, into the sun, the lake seems no longer blue but silver and white."

This reminded me of Frodo's boat sailing West.

"And the ship went out onto the High Sea and passed on into the West, until at last on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise."

Can you see the white shores way out there?

No, no white shores. In the far distance on a clear day, from Palisade Head it's possible to see the shapes of the Apostle Islands, which stick out from the bit of nearby peninsula that pokes up from Wisconsin. But the shores look dark, not white. (Looking across to the north of those you can't see anything but water, seemingly endless, the opposite shores being much too far away to see, even if the "mountains" along the North Shore were really tall.)

In winter, when the islands are covered in snow, *then* their shores will be white. But I prefer the ones Frodo is drawing near to: white because they are sandy, the air soft, fragrant and mild. Ahhhhh.....

Thanks for posting that *blissful* quote, Primula. It has blessed my morning. :)
