Thank you, Mechling, for sharing these beautiful creatures and your thoughts with us. I am sorry to hear that you have been stressed due to their poor health.

(((((Group hug for Mechling and kitties)))))

I love animals and have been fortunate to have owned (owned by, rather) a delightful black and white cat when I was a child. I was devastated because I had to give him up when my family moved to another part of London.

A kindly neighbour, Rose, adopted him and took great care of him. When we made our yearly visit to Rose I would run down the path, in her large garden and call ‘Sparkey!’ Within a matter of minutes I would see him come belting along the garden wall and over the potting-shed. I’d pick him up and get a great nuzzle from him. A grand re-union for a ten-year old and her cat. Rose said that he never came when she called out for him it was Sparkey that decided when it was time to come home. Of course, the inevitable happened. The day came when he did not come running when I called his name. I still get teary when I think about him and his antics.

My hubby bought me two blue finches that pestered our cockie (Cockatiel), by pulling at his long tail feathers. The cockie didn’t seem to mind too much, he was rather placid. When I developed allergy symptoms from the birds I refused to give them up. They were, after all my babies. So when they passed on we did not think it wise to replace them.

I hope you enjoy your mini-reunion and wish you a safe journey home.

P.S. I’ve been away on holiday for a few weeks. I have a lot of catching up to do.

Hi, Este! Sorry to reply so late. We went for a family visit from June 28 - July 6. We got back last night.

Your relationship with Sparkey sounds like Rachel's with Raoul. He never has loved any of us as much as he loved her, or succumbed to anyone's will like he did with her. They were a pair.

I have never kept birds, myself. When I was a kid, I couldn't imagine having a bird. I wanted a pet I could take to bed with me (see? it started early....). But as an adult I met many interesting, engaging bird pets. I'll bet you miss them. But your allergies are no joke. You will have to do without them.
