Morpheus and Iris by Guérin, teaser crop

~ Detail from “Morpheus and Iris” by Pierre-Narcisse Guerin (1774-1833).

Warning: Nudity. Full painting, while not racy, shows nude young man and bare-breasted woman. You be the judge. Photobucket would *definitely* take this down, since they took down Bouguereau's "Cupid and Psyche" and Michelangelo's "David". *rolleyes* I posted these images on Scrapbook.

Thank you, White Gull. The paintings bring back memories, don't they?

My trip went well; thanks for asking. I've been home for a little over two weeks. The only other thing I've posted is an announcement for Blossom's Frodo site, which I had started preparing before I left. It was almost ready to go, so I was able to post it right after I got back. Since being home, though, I haven't worked on anything for posting. There were important birthdays that I needed to make the celebrations for, helping my inlaws continue their move to their new house, changes for our daughter overseas that I needed to see to, and, most of all, sick cats that I came home to, all of whom have needed special care and trips to the vets. Oh, and subbing when I can (as a teacher's aide).

So don't worry, you haven't missed anything. When I'll get to post again I don't know. When I do, it will probably about coping with our pets getting sick and/or dying! But you know me, I won't be able to help myself making connections to Tolkien's world and LotR. *hopeless*

P.S. I meant to ask, where have you been, if you feel comfortable saying? You said you had been away.

You're right; the mythological stories behind these paintings are not the most interesting ones. Well, no, I thought the one of there being a place where dream spirits stay (such as Morpheus) that are sent as bearers of messages to sleepers was a cool concept, ripe for treatments in art. The painting above is not very interesting to me as an interpretation of it (Morpheus sent to appear as the dead, dripping sailor-husband of the sleeping wife), it's so light-weight as art. But it's AWFULLY pretty. :)

You have a high-schooler graduating? Then you *are* a busy person! Congratulations to you all! And have a good trip; I hope it's for pleasure that you are travelling.

Those were *fantastic*!!!! Thanks so much! As soon as I have time I'm going to upload the new ones to this post, if only for my own pleasure. You are GREAT, Twitter, to take the trouble to post that link.
