Thank you for the news clippings. It was good to see the "I feel good about dying now" quote in its proper context. I'd only seen it mentioned on its own - when it, of course, seemed much more sinister. :-/

I hadn't realised it was being bandied about on the web out of context. That would look very bad. But it's beautiful in context. Here's a link to the whole article:

You're right, his role as godfather will probably not amount to that much in the end. Michelle will marry someone, hopefully someone nice, and that person will effectively be Matilda's father.

I am glad Matilda will be able to see her father in films and interviews, even if she will not have remembered meeting him in person. I've often thought that must be a poignant yet wonderful thing for the children of film actors, that they can see their parents talking and living and emoting, even if as different characters, and get a sense of them at the various stages of their lives (if their career was lengthy). This would not apply if they *hated* their parents, of course. They'd never want to watch the films at all.

I agree - that must be lovely. And strange, to have so many versions of her dad available... and then she will have images like these:

I know most of these are pap pictures and Heath will have disliked their existence, but I can't help thinking they're all so lovely - and his deep love for his daughter can not be in any doubt when seeing these.

You know, I've never seen any of these. Well, of course I haven't, since I haven't followed his life or career. Thank you so much, Maeglian. These are absolutely lovely! I am bookmarking this site.

I can't imagine how Matilda won't cherish these. I wouldn't be surprised if she grows up loving the dad she never really knew very deeply. Images like these are treasures..

They certainly are. :-)

Since you haven't been following his career I might mention that though he sure liked to dress in the weirdest of clothes, the green hair he sports in a couple of these pics is the hair dye belonging to his "Joker" role in the upcoming "Dark Knight" movie (whose home page at the moment consists of just one page, namely this: http://thedarkknight.warnerbros.com/HeathMemorial.html )

And one has to admit that for a drugged-out insomniac substance abuser he really did find quite a lot of time inbetween to care for his daughter. [end heavy sarcasm directed at ugly sensationalist media stories]

I think it looks like he was a lovely dad.
