one of my goals in life is to visit that grave.

Me, too, Shirebound. I also badly want to see that mill where he and Hilary used to play, just dripping with Shire-ness, they say.

I reached that goal two years ago, and it was a very moving experience for me. I should post about it one day.

I hope that you achieve your goal. Thank you for this lovely tribute to the Professor.

*hugs you*

Please do, Gentlehobbit. And post a link to it here! I would love to hear your impressions of the experience.

Despite living within 2 hours drive of both, I have not been to either. Being able to do something anytime often means that it never gets done. Come over and we can make a pilgrimage together.

And thank you for marking his birthday with this series of photographs. I had not seen the ones showing him being so affectionate with his young family before.

Two hours away! And you've never been!? *gets out paddle* How I'd love to come and visit; we would CERTAINLY go and visit "Tolkien Country".

I know what you mean, though. We lived in San Francisco for three years and I never went on a cable car or visited Alcatraz. I lived in NYC for nine years and never went to the Statue of Liberty. I was most sorry never have been to the World Trade Center, since it is no more.

You have a standing invitation. I mean that.

Thank you! Wow!
