Yeah, but you are going to gain and lose weight for other reasons. *grin*

Could you repost those pics in about a year or so??

Alas, maybe neither of them will be svelte in another year. If they are like a lot of eaters, they may gain some or all of it back. But Pete was slim as a younger man, so it's not as though he's fighting a truly life-long propensity. I don't know about Philippa.

Yes, but the losing weight bit will not be enough... I fear a diet will be in order - unless I decide to go for that stranded whale look for the next few years... ;-)

I hope they can keep their weight - well, they have the money for personal trainers etc so the chances are good. Even though somehow I preferred PJ to look a bit more hobbity. *sigh*

He was very pinchable and smoochable, wasn't he as a rosy-cheeked man? I always thought he was very cute, even if portly. He was so full of energy, just bursting out of him (he needed it!), bit it always seemed constructive rather than destructive.

I never got the impression he was a vain man or insecure about his appearance, weight included. I am guessing he had a check-up that alarmed him. Perhaps his doctor told him he had all the signs of early heart attack. He seems to love his partner and young children very much, as well as making films, which he is just beginning to have carte blanche doing. I could very easily seeing him get super-serious about losing weight on that account. If he were just doing it for the looks, his style of dress would have changed more dramatically. But it didn't.

His on-the-set shots show hiim wearing some nicer things but nothing truly different in tone, and there are fewer shots of him wearing shorts or going barefoot, but that may have been that he began to feel the cold more. The one time I went on a big diet in middle age that happened to me: the fewer calories and thinner fat layer made me much more susceptible to feeling chilly.

Just a guess.

You could be right about the health aspect. I hope it is that - even though I don't want him to be in any danger - and not that it was a vanity thing. Then again, it's his body.

Well, men typically are more prone to heart disease. Or he could have been having knee problems. He likes to be active and weight came make knees and joints hurt more. It's not as though he was heavy all his life.

I am sure he is feeling great, now, though. :D
