Hi, Maewyn!

I had seen photos of Peter from his early days, so I knew he once looked very different from his LotR self, but he was practically a kid then.

I think his slim look suits him, too, although I thought he looked very *pinchable* as the barefoot-hobbit innkeeper-director.

Me, I loved the first hour best of all, the part before they see a single dinosaur. I loved the New York stuff and all of the ship stuff with all the loads of atmosphere. But most viewers and critics would agree with you, Maewyn. Almost everyone who commented thought the exposition, the set-up was too long. Some complained about the creature scenes, too, especially the bug pit. Not that they didn't think the bugs were cool, but that the scene was totally gratuitous. If cut, it would not have changed the film at all and they'd be right.

Me, I could have done with fewer stretches of all the bugs and dinosaurs. Again, I loved them all (yes, the combat while swinging on the vines was great - I wouldn't even have cut any of it), I wouldn't throw any of them out -- but thought they each went on for too long. As if PJ were simply letting himself indulge his fantasies, just for the fun of it, as something he'd always wanted to do -- "OH BOY GIMME MONSTERS AND CREATURES JUST IN CASE I NEVER GET TO DO A MONSTER FILM AGAIN."

Exactly! He's like a typical kid, who gets to play with some special toys, and decides that he's going to get the most out of them before someone takes them away! Good on him - half his luck for having that opportunity.

I agree that all of those dinosaur scenes would have been just as effective (or more so) if they were shorter.
