Whatever his other faults in adapting the book to film, Peter Jackson really was quite bold, even daring, to show such an easy, affectionate, and intimate friendship between two male characters. I thank him for that. A lot.

Amen to that!!!!!!! :)

Our two hobbit sweeties indeed. The Frodo/Sam relationship in the book is very beautiful, and the film preserved that innocence combined with intimacy. PJ is indeed to be praised with great praise for that. :)

And I think I forgave every single annoying 'wimpy Frodo' moment when Frodo pressed his lips to Sam's brow in farewell. *sob*

Beautiful. Just. Beautiful.

*happy sigh*

Pearl! It's good of you to drop by. Yes, the quality of that relationship made up for a lot with Frodo fans.

I almost fainted when Rachel (our daughter) was on a film messageboard and Frodo was being beat out in a popularity poll.

"I suppose Sam is winning again, isn't he?" I fumed, planning again to send Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens a crate of dead mackerel.

No, it turned out that ALL of the hobbit characters were being beat by the rest of characters of the Fellowship. All I can think is that because she was on a thread for fans of action movies, all the voters were boys and young men, few of whom have any use for wussy, hand-holding, bed-bouncing, kissy-faced hobbits.

The fools.
