Perhaps sometime we will have an opportunity to see more of the out takes; I hope so. PJ's perfectionism might prevent the release of 'unfinished' parts, but I, for one, would love to see ever scrap of film of Frodo, especially, and all the Shire. Well, actually, I'd like to see any of *all* of LotR that might have remained on the cutting room floor.

I think that the scene about which I am most curious is the famous shot of the Travellers cloaked in beautiful garments that are not shown in the films. They are mentioned in one of the books about the films (I forget which) - Frodo's a beautiful grey velvet with a pattern that was said to be especially beautiful with Elijah's coloring. *sigh*

Yes, I have been in the 'fandom' for many years, and remember Council of Elrond before KD. But I generally am a quiet sort, and was even more so then (*lurker*); the writing and stimulation to creativity from LotR's great mythology and themes (which I too have noted often in essays on my own lj) have introduced me to many friends who have become quite real.

Ah, yes! That costume for the return of the "Travellers"! The only shots I've found are ones of the costume pieces, but without Frodo in them (costume plates from the RotK extras), and the bit that's in a documentary of the four hobbits posing and horsing around while wearing them. Frodo and Sam are wearing the Elvish velvets, Merry and Pippin are in their Rohirric and Gondorian livery respectively. It's an engaging bit of film, but quite blurry and far away and quite inadequate for showing off those costumes.

Frodo's clothes, even the bit that can be glimpsed when Elijah Wood gets up from his crouch, are simply ravishing. They look like costume pieces that it would have been intensely pleasurable to wear, too. We spent an awful lot of bandwidth in Frodo threads swooning over those clothes and over Frodo wearing them ... imagining how they felt ... you may be sure!

So, you go back to the Council of Elrond! I have heard about those golden, "glory days." I only began to really participate in LotR internet fandom in November of 2003 (at Tolkien Online), and didn't get to K-D until the summer of 2004. It sounds like I missed an awful lot. *sniffle*

It was lovely, and we were so thrilled at every hint of a new image. But it's no less fine, now, and there is yet more creativity to come, for that is what flows from LotR. Tolkien's 'Original Creator' working in creation, including his own, inspiring fics and pics and costuming and thoughtfulness and music and musicals and literature(not to mention an entire genre on the fantasy shelves)... the road goes ever on. May there always be new people coming into the fandom, long after you and I, to whom to pass the inspiration and the love.

Beautifully said, Notabluemaia. It really does go "ever on."
