What a great idea to take this unexpected point of view on the momentous events of March 25th. There is a sense of detachment from the drama, a sense of viewing it all from a great height, as the eagles would have done. I feel that when reading the poem.

I also love the small touches in the writing, like the smelling sun and the Goldberry's crystal rain.

That Weta workshop painting is spectacular. The claws breaking through the clouds suggest the bird is flying at great speed and then braking abruptly.

Thank you both so much, ladies. Happy continuation of the Fourth Era.

I, too, feel like I am soaring with the eagles when I read this. I remarked in an email to Jan that it made me feel their detachment, like you--the sense of great physical distance from the doings of those walking on the earth below, plus the expanse of time as experienced by these very long-lived creatures compared to the brief lives of the mortals they are called to rescue. Yet that detachment--the distance and expanse--and the very Bigness of the Great Tale they are in--makes the plight of the dying hobbits that much more poignant, as well as making the joy of their rescue and healing the sweeter.

Dearest Mechtild.....it makes me *fly*, too, the continued joy that you have for ME, your encouragement of myself and others, your steadfast friendship. Thank you, dear heart. (and.....I am so glad that what I set out to do with this poem was achieved....)

Dear Ambree....what beautiful comments. Thank you! So happy that you enjoyed.

I do wonder what Age we might be in now....I think, in one of his letters, Tolkien opined that it might be the 7th and that they were, in fact, becoming shorter (which I think is logical, when viewed from the perspective of someone who is living in them, as opposed to observing from a very far distance)
