The one with the lighting guy in it.. It looks like the garden of bag end behind him, the steps and his hand is on what looks like the front gate. He is obviously in character with a sad and pensive look on his face. Nothing in the movie comes to mind here. Was this a deleted scene? He is not in any outfit we ever saw him in front of bag end in (I don't think.)
AUUGH! Where is all of the footage they obviously shot? You know somebodys got it. I want it sooooooooooo bad! I would pay big bucks for it. (Well, big bucks for me.)

You are absolutely right. I can't think of any stills with Frodo in front of Bag End at all in the daytime except publicity stills (like the one in my default icon). He's wearing his brown velvet waistcoat from the beginning, though. It's still in good shape and he's not all dirty. I wonder if this was just part of a stills shoot? Yet, there might have been a scene snippet that never made it. Yes, taerie, it would be great to be able to get our hands on ALL the footage for these films. And, yes, I'd pay a lot of money "for me" to get a copy of it.

The only thing I can think of is Sam and Frodo coming home tipsy at sunset.. and that is obviously not Mr.Wood but his small stand in. (I am so compulsive that somewhere I have a picture of this but I have changed Frodo to look more like his correct proportions.)
Hopefully, somebody will realize what a gold mine they are sitting on and make it available.. or at least publish a book of stills. (We wants it, my precious.. oh yes...) I have all of the visual companions and art of books but not enough E.W. Frodo pics (Never enough.)
Thanks for feeding my habit.

They were scale doubles coming home at sunset? I never thought that, not ever. I'll have to look again. Why would they bother to do that, since no Big People were in the shot with them?

I have the book on weapons and The Art of Return of the King. I don't have the Companions, though I check them out of the library occasionally. Such pretty pictures! I have been gathering all the volumes of the HoME, though; Letters, Unfinished Tales, some standard pieces of secondary literature, etc.

I'd love a book on just the costumes. Mmm mmm mmm.

Oh...sorry. I HATE to notice things like that and I do a lot cause my eyes are always on the hobbits when they are supposed to be somewhere else.
I assumed that they did it cause the outside of Bag End was little. That Photo-shoot that you have in your icon has bag end in the back and there is one of him with his pipe in his mouth on the front steps but they are all hard to judge scale by.
We see Gandalf go up the front steps to the door and it is tiny. We see Bilbo come out but we are looking at just the front door not the whole front yard. Despite all that I just said I don't spend a lot of time wondering about how they did the illusion I mostly just lose myself in it and believe in it.. so I really don't know how many fronts of bag end there were and how extensive they were.. I once, though spent a couple of enjoyable days drawing a map of bag end just for fun.. So I poured over the one in one of the art books and compared it and altered it to what we saw on the screen and it all ended up making sense. (I added bathrooms, cause.. REALLY!;-)
Anyway tourist pictures of bag end in NZ were very useful for this.. and from this I saw how very small bag end really was.. and what you can see from the front steps. There are more windows than you ever get to see in the film.(I even figured out where Frodo's bedroom WINDOW is!!!! Not sure I could get through it.. but it would be fun to try. LOL!)

Well, whaddya know? That must be the first time the scale doubles actually did a good job - because they were playing drunkards! The other times they were in scenes it was ultra obvious, precisely because their postures and body movements didn't match those of the bigger actors they were doubling for.
