You people really are incorrigible. :p

Personally, I love the gal who's giving him the eye. She looks so frankly appreciative and so clearly interested that I have to compliment her taste. Besides, she's adorable!

*blush* I can't speak for the others, but, yes, I'm incorrigible. But you still like me, right?

Oh, no. That's just acting. In reality, she thinks he's a real dweeb. Naaah, I am sure she knew she was one lucky hobbit lass. I wish it had been me! (Though, not really; I am a wretched dancer when it comes to learning steps --I probably would have stepped all over his inky-binky little hobbit feet. Even in his prosthetics, I'll bet my feet are bigger.)

LOL! This is great.

As it happens, though, you're both wrong. :)

The bint is thinking, "This is Take 47 and my smile is really starting to get shaky at this point. When is the break!?!?"

The guy is thinking, "If this scene makes the movie, it will be ME up there on the big screen, hooray!"

I like being incorrigible!

But I'm wondering exactly *who* that guy is supposed to *be*. There's gotta be a story there, I'm deciding. He's Frodo's age..... he's rather well dressed.... he's looking utterly bemused and nearly incredulous at Frodo doing the somewhat less than flattering funky chicken dance..... *and* he looks like he's spent quite a lot of time before the mirror, possibly working on covering his spots? All in all I've decided this is movieverse Lotho! ;-) But then, I'm rather partial to Lotho, compared to many readers.....

Shoot. LJ ate my reply.

I just wanted to say I pictured Lotho as more of a dissed, shunned dweeb with overwhelming, mean-minded parents than a pathological bully/rapist as he is in some fic. I expect he'd grow up with a bit of "Just Wait Until I Can Show Them," going on underneath, as he used his noodle to buy up the Shire. "Now I'M the Big Man in the 'Hood!" he probably thought, little knowing what he was getting himself into -- just as sadder-but-wiser post-Quest Frodo had guessed.

What did you do with your Lotho? I should check him out one of these days.

Oooooooohhh! *shivers run down my spine* Movieverse Lotho! I'll buy that!

Seriously, I'm on the lookout for a movie Fatty. I need to scour these scenes for someone who will do. Handsome, well-dressed, BIG, gentle, intelligent, good-humored, about the age of Movie Merry or Sam. More than one expression a plus. I'll look, one of these days. And then, if I can find Estella... :)

Ain't no such character in the films. You'll have to look elsewhere, I think, for Fatty and Estella. Perhaps some BBC sorts of period-dress films?
mariole at 2005-11-29 02:01 (UTC) (Link)
Hmm, good suggestion. Thanks!

I know, what about Charles, Anne Elliot's brother-in-law married to her whiney sister, in the 1995 Persuasion? (The one starring Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds; it's one of my favourite films.) He's got a cherubic yet chubbily handsome face, a halo of Regency brown curls, and a very nice temperament. Lovely waiscoats and breeches, too. I would have suggested the youngest Dashwood sister from the Emma Thompson Sense and Sensibility for Estella (such curls! such a charmingly willfull disposition!), but I forgot that your Fredegar is so old; Estella will have to be older, too. She was born in 1385 according to the Family Tree, but I think you might want to make her at least Merry's age, if not a little older, since Merry wasn't born until 1382. Or else you could make her one of those late, "surprise" pregnancies for Rosamunda, born long after Fatty.

Oh, I love that version of Persuasion! Unfortunately, I only have it on tape, so I cannot cap it. I only got a DVD after LOTR came out. :) I'll have to look for piccies online, I suppose.

Hmmm. I thought I just replied to your post, Mariole. I wonder where I actually put it?

Here it goes again:

Awww, too bad! Film-Charles not that dark, nor is he truly handsome, but I thought he made the character attractive in a real, very English-looking way. That film generally was characterized by actors who looked more real than pretty or handsome.
