NF-Lee's Gildor and Frodo

End of the Main Screencaps Project

As you who looked at last week's Galadriel's Glade post know, Pt. 5 was the last entry in the ongoing Frodo screencapping project I've been working on since 2005. I started out just sharing images I'd made to use for Frodo manips ("Frodo Art Travesties"), but the entries became the impetus for thinking further about the scenes, book and film, and, eventually, showcasing poems by jan-u-wine. It's been informative and has increased my appreciation of both book and film. Thanks again to all of you who have visited over the years of the project.

I still will make screencaps, but just to illustrate Jan's poems or my reflections. I won't be doing any more full-blown scenes. The one exception is the EE scene between Eowyn and Faramir in RotK. I screencapped that a year ago, for the sheer beauty of the scene, but never posted it because the scene didn't feature Frodo. I'll post the caps, hopefully with a new poem by Jan, in the next month or so.

After I made the Lórien screencaps, I came upon this photoshopped version of Galadriel in the Glade scene on Google. I think it's stunning. Instead of the film's blues, the maker has transformed the image using fire colours. Stars are the backdrop, or perhaps they are sparks, or both. I think it makes a superb illustration of Galadriel's temptation -- as if she's walking through fire -- strong and beautiful and eerie, a sight Frodo really might find terrible and worshipful.

The image I found is connected to i_luv_angst. I'm not registered at i_luv_angst's blog (fanpop), and unregistered people can't comment there. Thus I didn't praise him/her or ask permission to post this. However, I am hoping i_luv_angst, seeing I am lifting up the image for praise, won't mind.

Since this my "End of the Screencaps" post, I thought I'd point newer readers to pages of links I've provided to access all the screencap entries. On each page are more links, titled and provided with thumbnail images to indicate which caps are in the post. Links to these pages are kept in the sidebar, too.

Isn't that the coolest thing? The different colour scheme and all those sparks/stars completely transforms it.

Oh, and thank *you* for being such a "regular". *smooch*

This image of Galadriel is really impressing.

Thank you for posting all those beautiful pictures and poems and essays during all this time!

Isn't that a wonderful photoshopping of that image? I think is Enchanted/Enchanting.

Oh, and you're welcome, Melyanna!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful screencaps, the accompagnying insightful essays and Jan's poems. It's been a pleasure to follow your beautiful posts, high quality in every aspect has been their hallmark. I can only apologize for too often not having had the time to properly comment.

Looking forward to the Faramir/Eowyn scene!

Smooches, Maeglian. As for comments, remember: "quality, not quantity". You have made your mark forever with, "the green floating toilet paper in the lightning storm". HAW HAW HAW!

Anyway, thanks for years of stopping by. Even more, thanks for writing such great stuff about Tolkien and Frodo at K-D (your posts were The Best), and about BBM on your own LJ.

Hi! I've got the last few entries to catch up on! Thank you for all the beauty and feasts for thought and Jan's feasts for the heart all together warming the soul. And I've got lots of old entries to peek in at from before I found your journal.

That is a beautiful manip. Yes, that would have suited so much better than the nuclear green. (-:

Hope Andre, Elsa, And Charles are doing well and giving you joy--my three send purrs to yours.

Yes, that would have suited so much better than the nuclear green. (-: Ha ha ha! Did you read that post yet? I quote an apt remark from a Frodo-friend, Maeglian, who wondered why PJ decided to dramatise Galadriel's temptation with green toilet paper floating in a lightning storm.

The kitties are fine, Lavender. Just think: at the end of this month, on the 28th and 31st, Charles and Elsa will be one year old! Awww...

Dear Mechtild.....I hope that you'll allow me to add my voice to these others, and thank you for this.....*wonder* of a place.

how comely, my friend, have been the feet of the messenger upon the mountain......

thank you,

Thank you, Jan. I bow to your even comelier feet upon the Tolkien mountain. :)

WOW! I love that Galadriel manip, Mechtild. Thanks for sharing it.

Also, thank you once again for all the thoughtful, enlightening and inspiring commentaries you have written for your screencap entries ~ not to mention the many too-beautiful-for-words images you have shared with us over the years. As for Jan's poems ~ they have touched the heart of this Frodo fan many times with their poignant beauty.

I'll look forward to seeing more wonderful things from both of you in the future.

By the way, Mechtild ~ did you receive the e-mails I sent last week with the screencaps attached? Just wondering.

Thanks again,
~ Blossom.

Gosh, Blossom, you're the best. Thanks so much for this and so many comments during this LJ's career so far. That Galadriel manip *is* brilliant, isn't it? My mouth just dropped open when I clicked it open browsing Google for Galadriel images.

No, I didn't get your emails, Blossom. The last email I got from you was seven days ago, saying you were working on Blossom-ising a few fullscreen caps in Paint Shop Pro, which you'd send along. :(

How strange! Those e-mails are in my 'sent' items, and I have had no failure notices.

Not to worry, I'm going to try again now. I'll just sent the first one and see if it arrives. Can you drop me an e-mail to let me know if you get it?

~ Blossom

I have enjoyed this series of posts very much, and hope to keep reading more about your take on the LotR, and more of Jan's poems. Thank you for all the work you have put into this and for sharing it all so generously!
mechtild at 2009-07-10 12:57 (UTC) (Link)
You are welcome, Eandme! As you can see, I still find J.R.R.T.'s creation my heart's home when it comes to film and fiction.

Your latest post reminded me that I hadn't yet returned to the last couple of your screencap posts - I'd made a note to read them when I had enough time to properly 'digest' them - some things just shouldn't be rushed!! However, this meant that I hadn't thanked you properly for your wonderful posts either - and that is something I really want to remedy.

I know all good things come to an end - but 'good' is a very weak word to apply to all the beauty and knowledge that your posts have given us. Your wonderful screencaps, especially when combined with jan-u-wine's amazing poems, have taken my breath away so often I'm surprised I'm still breathing!! And you have frequently opened my eyes to aspects of both the books and films which otherwise would have just passed me by! So, for all your hard work, although I know it's been a labour of love, sincere thanks to you, Mechtild from the bottom of my heart:)

Paulie, you are welcome. You have been a lovely, informed visitor, and I hope you'll continue to drop in. I do have one more series in the works, which I mentioned above, but it's not a Frodo scene. Perhaps you will enjoy it anyway. There are certainly more Frodo and Tolkien things to post!
