I wish we had a pic of him smiling - because surely Drogo smiled a LOT - esp. after little Frodo came along!!

You are quite right. A bigger, more generous smile is called for. I have never read Middlemarch, so I don't know what the character is like that Sewell is portraying in these shots, but he may have had a very serious or brooding character. The second two frames do show a bit of a smile, but nothing full out.

BTW - I'd love to send you a Christmas card - could you email me your address?

Will Ladislaw is young and handsome and the guy Dorothea should have married straight away rather than the ghastly old fogey she ends up with.

But don't worry, all ends well. :)

I always imagine Drogo as jolly and smiling and affable: his name suggests it.

But I love the idea of his looking like Rufus. Yeah! :D

Thanks for the plot info., Pearl. So it's an "all's well that end's well" story. Mine and Bilbo's favourite kind (even if the ending is a little sad).

Yeah, I was knocked out when I saw these pics. I was telling Illyria that I came across him in this role, funnily, Googling Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy. Maybe some blogger had made a comparison in her journal entry, so that the picture popped up in my search. But doors opened in my mind. I thought he would make a great dad to EW in a role (and in this hair and costume, why not Drogo?), as well as Daniel Radcliffe. Sewell has facial likenesses to both. They're all in the same general family: dark haired pale skinned men with huge, mood-conveying eyes and good bone structure.

Really amazing how I've never seen the likeness between Rufus, Elijah and Dan before! I totally see it now. Elijah and Dan could be brothers: the same wide-set blue eyes, the same shape face, the same capacity to look lovable and slightly dorky in some shots, beautiful and sexy in others.

I've always liked Rufus as an actor, he tends to play rakish sorts (although Will was a good sort) and he really is an attractive man. :)

This might have inspired a plot bunny. Frodo and his papa. Hmmm.

Funny about the plot bunny. Jan said something like these images of Sewell, seen as a possible Drogo, made her feel like writing a young Frodo poem. We were talking about how the moods in Sewell's pictures are shaded: in some he is not quite happy, others not quite sad, not quite angry, and so on: all making for an image of Drogo that is more three-dimensional [than anything they'd probably put in the films] and interesting.

Yeah, I failed to see a real likeness between EW and DR until I saw these Middlemarch pictures. Sewell was the link for me. Sort of like, I never saw much resemblance between my sister and my mother. But when I met my aunt's sister, who reminded me uncannily of both my mother and my sister, I decided she somehow was the link that revealed their similarities.
