NF-Lee's Gildor and Frodo

Old images of Drogo Baggins found?

ETA: Ha ha ha! I sure can't subtract, as serai1, mole_caz and pearlette helpfully and graciously pointed out below. So forget all that stuff I said about Rufus Sewell's and Drogo's comparative ages. Let's just say Sewell would make a great father to EW's film-Frodo.

Below are photos I found on the internet of actor Rufus Sewell, as he appeared in the 1994 TV miniseries Middlemarch.

You're right. The resemblance is uncanny. I think Frodo got his eyes from this guy. And his bone structure from Primula. *nods*

It really made me do a double take when I happened upon those pictures. Believe it or not, I think I found them Googling up Colin Firth's Darcy (*swoon*) one day last year.

Wow, he looks really gorgeous in these! Yes, he'd have made a great Drogo at that time, although wasn't Drogo very fat? Or was that just Sandyman&Co's malicious slander?

Anyway, I like Rufus Sewell quite a lot. Of course he makes a wonderful evil villain in "Knight's Tale" - I also recently saw him on TV in a modernized version of The Taming of the Shrew - and he was absolutely madly and villainously hilarious there.

"Knight's Tale"!!! Thank you, Maeglian! I was trying to think of what I'd seen Rufus Sewell playing a villain in. I was thinking "Robin Hood? No. King Arthur? No." I guess I only remembered "Medieval". I liked him best playing the hero of "Dark City".

Ha ha, that's what I said to Pearl, that the real Drogo was supposed to have been overweight. But she said just what you said in your second sentence: it could be discounted as nasty gossip. But to my mind, people talking disparagingly about other people rarely make up stuff about them that anyone could contradict. So while I'd say it was slander (probably) to claim the two Bagginses drowned each other, an event apparently not actually witnessed by anyone and thus open to conjecture, benign or malicious, Drogo's physical appearance would have been something anyone who saw him could attest to. When it was said that Drogo's weight might have sank the boat, the implication is that Drogo was notably heavy. No one said, "That's ridiculous, or "No, he wasn't that heavy", so I would guess that Drogo probably was portly, even if not heavy enough to sink a boat (which really is ridiculous).

By the way, Hi, Maeglian! :)

I have only seen Rufus Sewell in a the 1997 mini TV series ‘The Woodlanders’ an adaptation from Thomas Hardy’s book.

I remember that the film was very Shire-like. Beautifully filmed.

Here is a link to the many faces of Rufus Sewell from YouTube.

What a great film! Gloria di Simone, the maker, is super talented. And I liked the choice of music by Giovanni Sollima. Thanks so much for sharing this, Este. Wow.

WHAT A MAGNIFICENT FACE! More than ever, though, I can't help thinking what a great face he has for playing film Frodo's father, or any relation, or any relation of any character EW might play, for that matter. WOW!

OMG YES!!!!!!! Wow. Now go and find Frodo's mom!!! :)

Check out the Rufus Sewell video in Este's box just above yours, Frodosweetstuff. It's made out of images of him from film, stage, pub shots, etc., all morphing from one to another to some cool strings music. It is SO great. What a magnificent face. And why shouldn't film Frodo's da have had a magnificent face? :)

Ooooh yes!!! That was excellent!!!! Let's call PJ and tell him we've found Frodo's dad. :)))

Or we'll bypass PJ and go straight to Guillermo del Toro! :)

Even better! :)
