NF-Lee's Gildor and Frodo

Sorry for the posting screw-up on "The End of All Things...."

Posted on 2006.03.20 at 15:53
I am so sorry!

I tried posting all five parts of my latest screencap series in sequence, but for some reason there was a screw-up. Some posted and some didn't.

I ended up posting the last of the set first, and a middle one at the beginning.

Just so you'll know, I did prepare the series to be read and viewed in order.

I put links at the bottom of each entry to make it easy to get to the next one, as well as links to the whole table of contents.

(And, as always, there is a link for the table of contents in the left margin under "Links.")

(I can't MAKE you do it that way, but you may enjoy it more. *smiley face*)

Thanks for bearing with me, Frodo fans!

Yours truly,

Ms. Screencap.

I hope you will not mind that I put up a rec for your journal, and a link to the links page, so more folks can see your lovely posts. They're so beautiful.

Oh, no, that's great, Mews! I would love it. I really do spend far too much time on them, but they are so beautiful once I've made them, I just can't resist. That other Frodo-lovers can see them too is the point.

I hope you will encourage them to look at them in the right sequence, though. The caps are so much more powerful when viewed in dramatic sequence.

I'll put an addendum on my post. That's why I linked to your links page, hoping folks would view them in order. Thanks, hon.

Good idea. Again, let me know if any of the links don't work.

I did look at them again just now, and the link to Pt. V that I posted in the bottom of IV was bad. It works now, though (I hope!)

Ha! You're right, Shirebound. I call that the "bored to death" picture, from the make-up and costume reference shots for FotR. But I really love the look on his face in that.

No wonder! Subliminally, "The Throat" was calling to me in that pic.

No, I hadn't seen that! That is so clever. I have seen some of Green Ghost's manips, Shirebound. There is one I love that I have posted several times, of Frodo bound in Cirith Ungol. I confess, though, that, looking at it, I have never thought of untying him.

Shirebound, I know you know all these people better than I do, and probably have already heard everything they have had to say about LotR over the years, but I wanted you to know that Notabluemaia said some very perceptive things about this scene in the comments for Part IV. I really felt my understanding of the scene was enriched by her remarks. Just because I get the sense that you aren't in the fandom just to squee, I say that. I squee mightlity, but I am "a Squee-er Seeking Understandingm," as St. Augustine might have said had he been a Frodo fan.

Ah yes, I remember that well.

Thank you for mentioning Notabluemaia -- I'll run in and check her comments. I love everything about this fandom -- the squees, the art, the wonder, the stories, the support, and the joy. This fandom fills my heart, helps my creativity blossom, and has brought into my life friends and people who understand the depth and layers and limitless potential of those books, films, and entire world of Middle-earth.

And Frodo.

*hugs you*

Golly, these posts are making me so mushy.

And as long as I'm squee-ing quietly, I consider these screencaps you make and share with us to be as generous a gift as any essay, story, or drawing. You're a true artist.

They really are beyond beautiful, aren't they Ellin? I am so, so sorry I didn't get them done in time for Maeglian to see. I suppose she is getting her prep done today. I think about her a lot. I thought about her while I made all these caps. How she loved the noble, beautiful, suffering Frodo.

And she still loves Frodo. And will. :)

Ah, how lovely to meet you all. Is your own hoot still happening, or did you cancel it? I remember lurking and seeing there were a number of scheduling conflicts for participants.

I wish you could join us. :)

YOU four are going to be together, for four days? Oh, it sounds like it will be fantastic. I have met Ariel, you know. She and her daughter consented to be my roommates when I travelled to Indianapolis to see the LotR museum exhibition. They were both great.

She is the only person from K-D (or anywhere else) with whom I have really corresponded as an LotR fan that I have met in person. I met some other K-D people in Indianapolis who were a pleasure to meet, too, but they were not people I normally posted with, then or since. I thought Ariel was SO neat. Her daughter was a treat, too.

You will have a wonderful time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've met Ariel, first in Vermont, then in UK. I met Mariole too, but not Peachy.

If I live far away from everyone, Peachy lives at the end of the world. ;)

I love Hoots. I'm hoping to make another for those who aren't able to come this time. Perhaps a mushroom-hunting hobbit hoot. :)

Hee hee, that's actually my big, poofy, red winter jacket! :D It's awesome; the day this picture was taken, we were down for a Sunday afternoon stroll in one of the parks and it was -20 celcius. The coat worked like a charm, I was not a smidge cold! :D

Seriously, it is a pleasure.

Sheer pleasure, Taerie, even if I was supposed to be writing. I'm pretty bad at staying on task. But it was all for a good cause, I think.

I would be very interested in the line that various programs provide in the art simulation filters. I have Photopaint and Painter by Corel and Photoshop CS. I believe they all have the art filters that are fun to play with but I don't really know how to manipulate them effectively. I bet there is some way to do what you have in mind. I'm looking forward to seeing the results!!
Mechtild
mechtild at 2006-03-21 23:48 (UTC) (Link)
Well, don't hold your breath, Taerie. I really am very primitive when it comes to knowing what to do with the programs. But, as it stands, there is no way I could match up the pencil style of the pics I want to use for the body and a pencil-fied screencap of Mr. Beautiful. But if you know of a way, please let me know! The drawings in the book with the sexual illustrations are done in coloured pencils, but they are sketchy, light, not filled in all over with colour, which I like. But when I apply a pencil filter to a screen cap, because the original is all filled in with colour, so is the pencil version.
taerie
taerie at 2006-03-22 02:21 (UTC) (Link)
Can you send me an example of the art so I can see exactly the deal? I can at least experiment with the programs I have to see if any of the filters work. There may be a way to combine filters and get some kind of similar line.. I dunno.
Mechtild
mechtild at 2006-03-22 03:23 (UTC) (Link)
Thanks, Taerie. My husband has to scan the images this coming weekend. I couldn't find any copies of the art already on the internet. That surprised me since the illustrator has actually published some "How to draw" books on the human figure, paints portraits by commission, etc. And the sex manual itself was a big seller in this second edition. You'd think there would be scans all over the place. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks they're rather good. As I said to someone else (Este?), the poses and bodies are really good, very natural. But the faces of the people seem rather uninvolved considering what they are supposed to be doing. They typically look only mildly pleased. I'd look a lot more pleased (or tortured) than that if I were doing these things. Some of the pictures show full genitals, but they are never done in a gross way. And not nearly as clinically presented as a sex ed. book for teenagers these days.

Perhaps the models were English.

Look at my little Pearly icon there: eyeing up her Frodo-lad so greedily. Heh.

Ha! *snort* Like Frodo?

But, like fanfic Frodo, I have got the impression that the English are rather hot under their "Yes, I do take milk in my tea, thank you, very much," exteriors.

Just look at the love poetry English writers have produced (often posted by Este)! Or at the sex-drenched plays back to the Tudor era (mostly between the lines). It may be "veiled" but it is there. I am re-reading the ode-to-sex poetry of Walt Whitman right now, and is he different. Everything is out in the open, as if he were striding across the prairie and through the woods with his dick out the whole time, happily drenching the countryside in procreative exhuberance. (Yes, I love it.)

I have got the impression that the British are very keen on bedroom activities, but that they are to be kept there. Amorous behaviour is only for those sharing it, and not for public consumption.

Does anyone know if this would work?

These posts would appear in sequence in ‘memories’ if they were saved one at a time in the correct order.

Pearl :D

mechtild at 2006-03-22 15:08 (UTC) (Link)
I have not tried using "Memories" properly, Este, so I don't know. I had been using it as a place to remember where I posted things, which is not its purpose. I just checked out what I do have in Memories, and I see they are listed in alphabetical order. Therefore, you might post the links to them all with the same title, but followed by sequential letters of the alphabet. (It won't let you do a longish title, either - It tried that.)

The other thing you could do is just put the first post in "Memories," Este, since there is a connecting link at the bottom of every entry. You could just navigate from there. How would that be?
